Bryan Mitchell had a rough afternoon — he allowed four runs on seven hits in two innings, and all the damage came in his first inning of work. Andrew Miller allowed a solo homer (to a lefty batter) and Dellin Betances tossed a perfect frame. Chris Martin surrendered three runs (two earned) in one inning and Tyler Webb allowed two runs in his inning. Jared Burton and Diego Moreno tossed up zeros. Here’s the box score, here are the video highlights, and here is the rest from Tampa:
- Big story of the day was Chris Capuano’s Grade II right quad strain. He hurt himself covering first base in this afternoon’s game and is expected to miss a few weeks. “I’d be surprised if he’s not down for awhile,” said Joe Girardi. Bummer. [Marly Rivera, Jon Morosi]
- Nathan Eovaldi threw a bullpen session while Domingo German, James Pazos, and Danny Burawa faced hitters in live batting practice. Michael Pineda (bullpen) and CC Sabathia (simulated game) are among those scheduled to throw tomorrow. [Chad Jennings]
- Brendan Ryan (mid-back sprain) ran some sprints and will take dry swings tomorrow. Chase Headley took a ball off his finger tips during fielding drills but is fine. Luis Severino (strep throat) is back in camp and played catch. Nick Noonan (stiff neck) will return to the lineup tomorrow. [Brendan Kuty, David Waldstein, Jennings]
Here is tonight’s open thread. This afternoon’s game against the Red Sox will be replayed on YES later tonight at 10:30pm ET. The Rangers and Nets are also playing, but there’s no college basketball tonight. Talk about anything other than politics and religion here. Have at it.
