DotF: Sanchez homers again; Amburgey stays crazy hot

OF Trey Amburgey and RHP Domingo Acevedo were named the Short Season NY-Penn League Offensive Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Also, LHP Chaz Hebert was named the High-A Florida State League Pitcher of the Week. Congrats to all of those games.

The minor league regular season ends two weeks from today for most affiliates, so here’s a standings update.

Triple-A Scranton (5-1 loss to Pawtucket) they’re 73-56 and 6.5 games up in the North Division … their magic number is nine

• LF Ben Gamel & 2B Rob Refsnyder: both 0-4 — Gamel struck out twice
• 3B Jose Pirela: 1-3
• C Gary Sanchez: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — ties his career high with 18 homers

Double-A Trenton (3-1 win over Akron) they’re 66-61, 7.0 games back in the Eastern Division and 3.5 games back of a wildcard spot … their elimination number is 13 … my guess is a big chunk of this roster will be bumped up to Scranton on September 1st to help out during the Triple-A postseason following September call-ups

High-A Tampa (3-2 win over Dunedin in ten innings, walk-off style) they’re 62-66 overall and 28-30 in the second half, 8.0 games back in the North Division … their elimination number is four

• SS Abi Avelino: 1-6, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E (throwing)
• CF Dustin Fowler: 2-5
• C Kyle Higashioka: 2-4, 1 K
• PR Miguel Andujar: 0-0, 1 R, 1 SB — pinch-ran for Higashioka in the eighth inning and scored the game-tying run
• LHP Dietrich Enns: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K — 51/17 K/BB in 48.2 innings as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery

Low-A Charleston had a scheduled off-day. They’re 60-66 overall and 26-30 in the second half, which has them sitting 11.5 games back in the Southern Division and 7.5 games back of a postseason spot. Their elimination number is just four.

Short Season Staten Island (4-3 loss to Aberdeen in 12 innings) they’re 31-28 and one game up in the McNamara Division … their magic number is 16 … it’s a tight race, the four teams in the division are separated by just three games

• 2B Thairo Estrada: 2-5, 1 CS
• RF Trey Amburgey: 4-5, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB — 10-for-13 (.769) with four doubles, a triple, and a homer in his last three games
• SS Kyle Holder: 1-5, 2 K — just back from an unknown injury (he did have hamstring problems earlier this season)
