Triple-A Scranton (4-1 loss to Rochester)
- LF Ben Gamel: 0-5, 1 K — off to a 1-for-13 (.077) start, so clearly last year was a fluke and he’s a bust
- RF Aaron Judge: 1-4, 1 BB, 2 K — threw a runner out at second … he’s gone 1-for-4 in all three games so far
- 3B Rob Refsnyder: 2-5
- CF Slade Heathcott: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K — on fire to start the new season
- C Gary Sanchez: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
- DH Cesar Puello: 0-1, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 CS
- RHP Anthony Swarzak: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 3/3 GB/FB — 41 of 60 pitches were strikes (67%)
- RHP Nick Rumbelow: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, 0/2 GB/FB — 13 of 20 pitches were strikes (65%) … he went out for a second inning but left the game with an injury during warm-ups according to the team’s Twitter feed … supposedly the Yankees are going to try Rumbelow as a starter this season, and this seems like it was going to be a tandem outing with Swarzak, three innings from one guy and two or three innings from the other guy, etc.
- LHP Tyler Webb: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 0-1 GB/FB — 29 of 45 pitches were strikes (64%)
- RHP Branden Pinder: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K — 22 of 33 pitches were strikes (67%) … at this point he’s probably first in line for a call-up, assuming he is rested whenever the need arises
Double-A Trenton (6-2 win over Erie)
- SS Tyler Wade: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B — off to a 5-for-13 (.385) start after getting the bat knocked out of his hands at this level late last year
- CF Dustin Fowler: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB
- RF Lane Adams: 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB
- 1B Tyler Austin: 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 E (fielding) — this is now the fifth consecutive season he’s spent time at Double-A
- LF Jake Cave: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 K
- RHP Ronald Herrera: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 3/3 GB/FB — 62 of 89 pitches were strikes (70%) … nice organizational debut for the 20-year-old right-hander … he came over from the Padres in the Jose Pirela trade this offseason
- LHP Caleb Smith: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HB — 16 of 25 pitches were strikes (64%) … I’m a bit surprised to see he’s working in relief, though he has enough stuff to get a big league call-up at some point
High-A Tampa (2-1 loss to Lakeland in ten innings, walk-off style) second straight day 3B Miguel Andujar is not in the lineup, so he must be nursing something
- SS Jorge Mateo: 1-5, 1 R, 2 K, 1 SB — two steals in four games so far
- 2B Abi Avelino: 0-4, 1 K
- RF Mark Payton & CF Michael O’Neill: both 0-4 — Payton struck out twice, O’Neill thrice … Payton also threw a runner out at third
- RHP Gabe Encinas: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 2 WP, 5/3 GB/FB — 44 of 86 pitches were strikes (51%) … his prospect expiration date has passed, but it’s good to see him have a hitless and scoreless outing
- RHP Jordan Foley: 2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 4/1 GB/FB — 29 of 42 pitches were strikes (69%)
- RHP Jonathan Holder: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 1/1 GB/FB — 22 of 31 pitches were strikes (71%) … if he’s in the bullpen for good, he should be in Double-A pretty soon … he threw 103.1 innings at this level last year
Low-A Charleston (6-5 win over Columbia, walk-off style) they are 3-1 this season with three walk-off wins and a no-hitter loss
- CF Jeff Hendrix: 0-4, 1 BB, 3 K — 3-for-16 (.188) with seven strikeouts so far
- 2B Thairo Estrada: 2-5, 1 3B, 3 RBI, 1 E (throwing)– walk-off two-run single … one of my favorite lower profile prospects
- RF Trey Amburgey: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
- SS Kyle Holder: 2-4, 1 K
- 3B Angel Aguilar: 1-3 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
- RHP Simon De La Rosa: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 0/2 GB/FB — 27 of 56 pitches were strikes (48%) … he has a very live arm, but he’s lack refinement in a big way
- RHP Travis Hissong: 3.2 IP, 2H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2/4 GB/FB — 31 of 45 pitches were strikes (69%) … I guess you could say he (shades) killed them softly (YEAAAAAAH)
