Via Jon Heyman: The Yankees have not yet called the Mariners and asked about the availability of Kendrys Morales. Seattle is hesitant to become a seller though, and GM Jack Zduriencik told Heyman he is “not shopping anyone.”
Morales, 30, is hitting .279/.339/.462 (126 wRC+) with 13 homers in 363 plate appearances this year. He is owed roughly $2.5M through the end of the season and will become a free agent this winter. Morales makes an awful lot of sense for the Yankees, who could use his switch-hitting bat in the middle of the lineup to both balance things out and break-up the lefties. He could also play first base, where Lyle Overbay has been okay, or DH, where Travis Hafner has been awful since May.
